Order of Valiance Proposal
Almost two months ago, I posted a note regarding the formation of a Facebook group to promote the development of a new peerage order in the SCA. This order would include all martial activities that are not currently covered by an official peerage order. Recently, there has been some clarification of where to send supporting letters to the SCA Board of Directors as well as the types of information to include. Below is a missive sent to several online groups by Sir Jon Fitz Rauf. I’m passing it on to any interested readers who may not have seen it elsewhere. Here it is in toto:
IMPORTANT: CORRECTION FOR SUBMITTING LETTERS TO THE BOD!
We have just learned (about a month later) that the Directors at sca.org mailto:Directors@sca.org address was the incorrect email address for submitting letters on the Valiance proposal to the BOD. It seems that they only want them sent to peerage@sca.org mailto:peerage@sca.org. So, it is possible that they may not read or count the letters that were sent to the incorrect address. If you sent a letter to directors@, please resend your letter to peerage@sca.org mailto:comments@sca.org as soon as possible. The BOD meeting is this Saturday.

Greetings
Have you written to the BOD in support of the Valiance Proposal yet? Have you personally asked your friends to do the same? Please, if you have not, do it today. The BOD meets on April 18. Send your letter to peerage@sca.org mailto:peerage@sca.org before April 17 so they have time to read it.. Here are some talking points to share:
1. The text of the proposal can be found at http://endlesshills.net/valianceproposal.pdf.
2. The participants in our activities are happy to share one peerage in recognition for our different martial skills, just as the Laurel and Pelican share their omnibus peerages for all arts and service activities.
3. There are 13,183 authorized heavy and rapier fighters combined. There are 14,410 authorized or active (not all of our activities require authorizations) in the omnibus activities. There will be crossover between all of these – there are heavy fighters who ride, and archers who fence, but no matter how you look at it, we are strong in numbers and not a minority.
4. This peerage will close the gap, giving every activity practiced in the SCA a potential path to peerage.
5. The omnibus activities like archery and thrown are easy for newcomers to start, and provide a significant growth opportunity for SCA membership.
6. The SCA has an excellent record of recognizing Peers in many fields. We are sadly lacking in our recognition of the existing Peers in the fields of archery, thrown weapons, and more.Be polite, and ask that the proposal as written be passed. Every voice counts, from the newest member or non-member to the highest ranking peers.Express your opinion in a letter to the BOD and/or if you can attend the meeting in Covington, Kentucky express your opinion in person. If all else fails and you have problems getting your ideas together and putting them into a letter in support of the proposal, there is a letter creation tool on line that can help you put together a letter to the BOD. The site contains links to the proposal and some examples of letters that others have sent supporting the Valiance proposal, as well as key talking points. Review the sample letters and points, collect your thoughts and then write up your own personal letter. A completely personal letter is best. It does not have to be a literary masterpiece to express your support.Create Your Own Valiance Proposal Letter by going to:
http://bit.ly/ValianceSupportLetterCreator http://bit.ly/ ValianceSupportLetterCreator The intent of the letter creator is not to tell you what you must write. It has comments from the letters of others that you can either choose to cut and paste, modify or use to stimulate your own ideas for comments. The whole process is mostly automated to help those that dislike writing letters. This is a last resource for those that support the Valiance Proposal and want to inform the BOD of their opinion, but just cannot manage to put a letter together.
If you do not support the Valiance proposal, then you should write the BOD and tell them why you do not. One way or the other, please send the BOD your opinion as soon as possible.
