First Post on Archery
In addition to my interests in brewing, I find archery and thrown weapons to be enjoyable activities for participation in the SCA. I find my fellow archers in Calontir to be some of the most fun folks to spend time with (OK, this is a blog and is informal, so I can end a sentence with a preposition!). I cherish the hours of challenging shoots and camaraderie experienced at events that include archery.
I don’t have a huge number of bows.
- A Hungarian horsebow made by Attila Keresztes. This is a beautiful bow made of blood wood and ash with green cording.
- Three wooden longbows (2 hickory and one red oak)
- A tri-lam longbow with horn string nocks (from Bowskin Archery)
- A Bear Archery Montana modern longbow
- A Flemish Crossbow made by Master Iolo.
Recently, I’ve been working on constructing period arrows. Some of them are plain, run-of-the-mill self-nocked arrows. The more challenging ones are self-nocked with horn or hardwood inserts (I’ve been using purpleheart wood). I’ll say more about arrow-making in future posts.
Well, that’s about it for my first archery post. I hope to add more in the near future!
Looking forward to more! ^_^
